Background:

Women Care, Aran Rural Development Organizations and Individual Professionals had founded the organization as a Regional network and later on acquired volunteers from local communities.
The group had received successive trainings on holistic resource management, Food Security, Advocacy, Lobbying, Leadership and PRA.:

- Environmental Awareness Rising.
- Extension Services/Trainings on Resources Use, Public health and sanitation.
- Data collection and resources situation assessments.
- Implementation of demo-Sites, demonstrating the impact of trampling
- Preparation of Reports and publications.
- Communication and Networking.
- Coordination of Environmental Activities.
- Cross-visits.

MISSION STATEMENT

Contribute efforts for sustainable improved livelihood of M/Shabelle Rural Communities.

VISION

Somali community living in a healthy, productive environment and enjoy peace, justice and democracy.

- To improve rainfall effectiveness
- To counter soil erosion process.
- To help communities participate in the management of their resources.

Achievements:

The team has successfully accomplished to engage local community groups ( Elders, Religious Leaders, Women and Youth) in participating actively to the forums which they gained substantial capacity to undertake resource management activities.
During field visits, the team members disseminated principals of Range management to the communities and also carried out public health and sanitation awareness throughout the visited villages.

The team also emphasized the use of intercropping, crop rotation and animal impact which improved farm productivity in Bur areas of Adale District.
The awareness activities were mainly carried out in Adale, Jowhar, Mahaday, Balad and Warshiekh districts during the last seven years

During field visits, the team was able to monitor and evaluate resources situation in the region. Data was collected on Socio-economic aspects, resource base, Food Security, community dynamics, culture and local knowledge.
Communities benefited from the trainings and extension services on holistic resource management and the shared tools/strategies for land management.
They also developed substantial capacity in identifying their priorities. The extensionsts were trained to operate both in Adale and Jowhar Districts.

In the first phase of RMSN programe, M/shabelle team established successfully demo-sites in the coastal town of Adale and in Qurac-madobe Village of Doy sub-echo-zone. The demos showed the usefulness of animal impact in turning green to bare grounds.
Adale demo-site sustained in two seasons (from Der of 1999 to Gu of 2000) with good and tangible results.
